3MLB gets it wrong againNov 11, 2007
By downtown
MLB has an unfortunate tendency to give the customers what they want us to have, rather than what we really want.

In 2004, they gave Sox fans a "complete" DVD set from the ALCS and World Series. But where was the ALDS? Most Sox fans probably would have paid extra for those three exciting games, had they been available. Once again, MLB has come up short with their "complete" DVD set: you get the anti-climactic 2007 World Series, but only the last three games of the ALCS. Why only a fraction of a series? Why only games 5-7? Just because, it would seem. Want to see Josh Beckett's dominating performance in Game 1 against Cleveland? Too bad, MLB didn't deem it worthy of inclusion.

This collection isn't bad, it's exactly what it advertises itself as. But it could have been so much better.

2ALCS....minus Games 1, 2, 3 & 4 Plus all four World Series GamesNov 10, 2007
By J. A. Morse
I'm going to have to think long and hard before buying this set. I really enjoyed the 2004 version because it had statistics for each game on the DVD cover and included the first four games.

Why would a decision be made to exlude four games from the ALCS? Sure the price is $40 cheaper, but I would have paid $40 more to have all seven games.

This decision gives me the feeling that somebody who is not a fan of baseball made this decision, because any true fan of the sport would have prefered all seven games instead of just three.

So essentially I'll only see one game of Josh Beckett's outstanding/dominating performance in the ALCS. I'll miss the first Curt Schilling game. I'll also miss Dice-K and Wakefield's performance. Yeah, the last three lost their games (Schilling actually had a ND) but that's what makes an exciting series exciting.

I certainly HOPE somebody changes their mind and releases all SEVEN games. Otherwise...what's the point?!?!

1Wait a while...Dec 04, 2007
By Christine Murphy "cmurf1960"
...because if you recall, the FULL 2004 WS set came out AFTER the ring ceremony, which took place at Fenway Park in April 2005. The ring ceremony was on that set.

I bet that MLB puts out a more complete set after the ring ceremony in 2008. They seem to be putting this one out now, quickly, to sell DVDs before Christmas. Be patient, hold off, and perhaps we'll see a superior set later on.

So I'll be holding off in the hope of seeing this. I waited long enough to see the Sox win the WS the first time in 2004...I can wait for a better 2007 WS box set!

2I'll wait a while for a better release of this product, or I'll just not buy it at all.Dec 07, 2007
By Ana Rivera "I have ten thousand kitties in my room."
I first saw this World Series on TV and was amazed at the overall outcome of the whole thing (and this is coming from someone who doesn't consider herself a die-hard Red Sox fan!). Although I'm a Yankees fan, I had plans to buy this DVD set for reasons I won't disclose to anybody.

Unfortunately, it seems apparent once again that MLB and A&E haven't done their job properly. That is, they don't bundle the entire respective LCS with the actual World Series itself. They did that with almost every World Series DVD of this type. This DVD release doesn't even include the first four games of the 2007 ALCS, which is a big letdown for you fellow BoSox fans and prospective buyers. I particularly liked Josh Beckett's performance in Game 1, in which he struck out 9, and there's no sign of it on here.

Hey, I know A&E Video was releasing this in an attempt to make it a 'Christmas Pick' or something like that, but it would have been better to wait a while and gather all the resources, so to speak.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see if this DVD set gets an expanded re-release in the future, which I very much doubt they ever will.

To any of you at MLB or A&E Video: If you're reading this, you probably want to consider posting a vote on your site that allows us to choose what WE want to see on the next World Series Collector's Edition DVD. 'What would you like to see on fill-in-the-blank World Series DVD?'

Sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but if I were a Major League Umpire, I'd call both MLB *AND* A&E out for failing to hit even a single with treatment of this DVD set - forget solo, 2-run, and 3-run home runs or even grand slams.

2WS DVD s/b PPDDec 11, 2007
By G. A. M. Starks "Gladiambooks"
I really hoped MLB & A&E had learned from the 2004 experience that fans want the complete set of games, including the ALDS games. Instead, they give us a more incomplete product! This set does not include games 1 through 4 of the ALDS. We miss out on the first game - a Beckett gem. And the excitement of games 2 - 4, when Cleveland proved they were true contenders!
And while the 2004 set lacked the 3 ALDS games against the Angels, at least it was produced in HD. This World Series set was rushed to market, so much so that it is not in HD or widescreen, which are practically automatic on all DVDs today.
So while I appreciate MLB's effort to get a product out in time for the holidays, I truly wish they had postponed the offer until such time the entire postseason series of games could be made available in 1 set - with all the viewing perks!
